Hello everyone! My name is Debbie and I teach the Thornbury Music With Mummy and Jolly Babies classes, which is absoloutly the best job in the world!
A little bit about myself… I love children are think they are amazing, the joy and fun they create is fantastic and simply contagious. I have worked with children of all ages, from Nursery right up to Secondary school.
My favourite place in the whole world is Westonbirt Arboretum, I love to go there as much as possible, walking, talking and playing among the trees.
I have always loved singing since I was a little girl, I will sing anything and anywhere, much to the horror of my teenager, who can find Mum a little bit embarrassing!
I really began to value singing and music when my eldest was born, I struggled to communicate with him as a baby and found it really difficult to know what to say… I soon learnt to communicate with him through song, singing when he woke up, during nappy changes, when he was happy, sad and every other mood inbetween. I felt empowered and the communication barrier had been broken… hooray for the power of music!
My young baby Eddie and I are also members of a Jolly Babies class. Having that quality time together in class whilst sharing music is an incredibly fun and special experience for us! We love to boogie to the Baby Jive.
About My Classes
The friendly and relaxed atmosphere in our classes is what I love most! Everyone is welcome at Music With Mummy – Thornbury, we have lots of fun and smiles can be found on the faces of the babies, children, parents and most definitely mine.
Our Music with Mummy and Jolly Babies classes have been designed specifically with the changing needs of the children in mind. The classes are small in size, and whilst you might recognise some nursery rhymes and folk songs, the vast majority of the songs have been written specifically for us… hooray! Lots of new stuff to sing! With a mixture of action songs, percussion and good old fashioned singing, classes are a lively and happy place to be! We spend time developing the child’s confidence and aim to make music part of everyday life. MOST OF ALL… WE HAVE FUN!
JOLLY BABIES aged birth – 14 months
The start of our musical journey, it is amazing how much fun we can have together in 30 minutes. We will wave and clap, sing and dance and I especially love to hear the babies giggle when they have a big tickle! Percussion time is a firm favourite, as is the bouncing and the bubbles. Classes provide a great opportunity to bond with your baby, to make new friends and to have FUN in a relaxed and friendly environment.
MUSIC WITH MUMMY aged approx. 15 months+ – 4 years The musical fun continues… Each term there will be a new theme such as Colours, Transport and the Home. Musical objectives such as rhythm, tempo and pitch are gently introduced through our fun songs, games and percussion time, where children get an assortment of instruments to explore. Each class is filled with instruments and props, singing and dancing and lots of interaction, smiles and laughs.
We have done Jolly Babies online and started a Music with Mummy class since classes reopened. Debbie has done so well adapting these classes to changing circumstances. Despite restrictions she has ensure the classes are consistent, safe and accessible but best of all fun!
It has been a blessing to me to have her facilitate a time I can invest in my children and the feedback from them has been more than positive; smiles and giggles from Edyth (6 months) and “I love sing with Debbie”
Jolly Baby Mum, Thornbury
I had my baby girl in May and I was looking for a baby group I could take her along to. I discovered Jolly Babies and Debbie is a really lovely and enthusiastic leader who goes above and beyond in every session. Throughout Covid Debbie has created lovely videos on social media which are easy to access along with hosting live zoom sessions which have been a godsend! All of her classes are well organised with lots of exciting instruments to play with and are so much fun ❤️
